- American Ginseng (scientifically known as Panax quinquefolius), commonly used as an herb in traditional Chinese medicine. It is native to America and Canada. Almost 90% of the United States’ American ginseng crop is grown in Wisconsin which is the most popular ginseng in the world.
- Wild American Ginseng The cultivated ginseng is usually harvested after three to four years, depending on cultivation technique. The wild grown American ginseng often requires up to 10 years before harvest. In TCM, wild American ginseng is considered to have much better healing effects.
- Wisconsin-grown American Ginseng has worked extensively to develop U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) grading standards for cultivated American ginseng to assure the marketplace of consistency in ginseng produced.
- American ginseng is light tan in color. Wrinkles around the neck indicates the age of the plant. It is ready to use when it has grown for about at least 5-6 years.

- In traditional Chinese medicine, American ginseng is sweet, slightly bitter with cooling properties. It is a tonic for lungs and supplement of Qi / energy . It may help clear internal heat, promote saliva, and quench thirst. It also supports the heart and blood health. It may help people with dry mouth and thirst, cough, sore throat, mouth ulcer, tiredness and unrest, body weakness.
- American ginseng is a powerful adaptogen, meaning it helps the body to deal with external adverse influences, supporting the body health balance.
- Ginseng contains high ginsenoside (the active ingredient) and polysaccharide glycans (quinquefolans A, B, and C), which has anti-inflammatory. Moreover, American ginseng as an antioxidant, may help in boosting the immune system, supporting healthy mental function and concentration, soothing people with good sleep, providing people with physical energy. It may also help relieve the cold and flu symptoms.
