Easy American Ginseng Tea Recipes

American ginseng, primarily cultivated in the United States and Canada, is renowned for its quality, particularly from Wisconsin. It ranks among the most sought-after herbs in the world. So, what are the health benefits of American ginseng?

AMERICAN GINSENG AND ITS HEALTH BENEFITS

American ginseng is considered as an adaptogen, which are believed to stimulate the body to resistance to external stressors. The active ingredients, ginsenosides, have unique health benefits. It is a potent antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties. It helps in improve brain functions like memory and mood. It is also a great supplement to boost immune system and fight tiredness and increase energy level.

Don't confuse American ginseng with Asian ginseng (Panax ginseng) or Korean Ginseng. Studies have found that the different types of ginsengs have different benefits. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), American ginseng is considered less stimulating than the Asian variety.

In TCM, American ginseng is cool in nature. It helps people with too much “heat” in their body and help restore a harmonious balance between Yin & Yang. It is a well-known 'Tonic herbs for Qi Deficiency' that nourish the spleen and lungs, engenders body fluid. Bitter and sweet herbs like American ginseng tend to have cleansing action on clearing body heat, drying dampness and detoxifying the body. It also have tonic effect on replenishing Qi and blood.

HOW TO MAKE GINSENG TEA FROM THE ROOT

We can simply use ginseng tea bags or ginseng slices to brew the ginseng tea. It is an excellent substitute for coffee. My favorite way to consume ginseng is to make tea from the root because I know the quality of the ginseng.

Dried ginseng root is hard to chop. So, we can steam ginseng for 10-15 minutes (or until it is softened) before slicing.

Ginseng Honey Drink : clear internal heat and quench thirst

Adding honey to american ginseng tea is a great way to both improve the flavor and add additional health benefits. This tea can soothe dry throat, calm spirit and supplement Qi.

Ingredients:

  • American Ginseng – 8 slices
  • Honey – 1 tsp (or optional)

Method: Rinse the ingredients and steep the amercian ginseng in boiling water for 5 minutes, add honey to taste.


Ginseng longan and goji berry tea : Nourish liver and reduce eye strain.

Longan and goji berry are natural sweetener. This ginseng tea combination benefits eye’s health and as a traditional remedy for insomnia. Suitable for all ages.

Ingredients:

  • American Ginseng – 8 slices
  • Longans – 3 pcs
  • Goji Berry – 6 pcs

 Method: Rinse the ingredients and steep the amercian ginseng and longan in boiling water for 5 minutes, then add goji and steep for further 3 minutes.

 

Ginseng and rose bud tea : reduce anxiety and maintain radiant skin

Adding rose petals to gives the ginseng tea a floral flavor. Benefits include boosting blood circulation and reducing anxiety. The warming properties of rose bud can also balance the cooling effect of american ginseng.

Ingredients:

  • American Ginseng – 8 slices
  • Rose buds – 1 tbsp (or 3g)

Method: Rinse the ingredients and steep in 250ml boiling water for 5 minutes.

Cautions:-

  • Not recommended for pregnant women and during heavy menstruation, or children.
  • Not recommended for people who are experiencing diarrhea, loose stools and abdominal pain. Do not use if you are taking blood thinner. Please consult your doctor.
