Tragacanth Gum (Xue Yan)
Tragacanth Gum is also known as Snow swallows (Xue Yan), is plant pith secretions from the plant Gum Tragacanth. Xue Yan got its name from its white thread-like texture, provides similar benefits as highly valued bird’s nest. It has been used as herbal remedy effectively for lowering internal heat and soothing constipation. This sap is full of collagen with anti-aging properties which can retain skin moisture and suppress wrinkle formation.
Snow swallows, peach resins and honey locust seeds have become more popular especially among women. The texture and nutritious value can be comparable to bird's nest and fish maw, yet at affordable prices.
Cautions:
- Rehydrate the Xue Yan (3 grams per person) in water for at least 10 hours The gum would become 20 times in its full volume. Then rinse the gum to remove the impurities. Boil the gum in low heat for 30 minutes. Do not boil more than 1 hour or the gum would completely dissolve.
- The gum may have slightly acidic smell, which is natural. To remove the sour smell, soak the gum for longer hours and replace the water for several times.
- Not recommended for pregnant women and the people with diarrhea.
- Keep cool dry place and keep out of reach of children.
