Easy Tea Recipe - Shu Zhu Ginseng Tea

While city dwellers have to deal with hustle and bustle of city life and often plagued with insomnia, coughing and wheezing. Ladies may suffer from menstrual pain, dizziness and nausea. Chinese Panax Ginseng - Shu Zhu ginseng may help out.

Shu Zhu Ginseng can tonify Qi and vitality, invigorate blood and promote metabolism. Especially suitable for people with insomnia, anxiety and cold limbs.

Red Dates (Jujube) are also a good tonic for tonifying qi and blood, strengthening the spleen and nourishing the liver, and also have the calming effect. Codonopsis (Dang Shen) is a mild tonic to strengthen the body and nourish the blood. It also contains adaptogens that help protect the body for stress, applies to limb weakness, loss of appetite, cough, dizziness, women and elderly with qi deficiency. Radix Astragalis (or Astragalus root, Bei Qi), is one of the most important herbs in TCM. The Chinese name of the herb, Huang Qi or Bei Qi, means “yellow/ white leader”. It promotes vital energy, tonifies the spleen, benefits for lungs, kidneys and skin, and helps relieve joints pain.

This simple Shu Zhu Ginseng Tea recipe has various health benefits, it helps replenish qi and nourish blood. A typical Chinese ginseng, like Shu Zhu Ginseng, has relatively milder potency than that of Korean Ginseng. Shu Zhu Ginseng is complementary with the combination of red dates, Dang Shen, and Bei Qi. Suitable for people with joint pain and muscle soreness, seniors, women with irregular periods.

Ingredients:

Shu Zhu Ginseng - 10g/0.35oz
Red Dates – 8 pcs
Codonopsis (Dang Shen) – 4 pcs/8g
Radix Astragalis (Zheng Bei Qi) – 4 pcs/10g

Direction:

  1. Rinse and soak all the dried ingredients. Remove the seeds from red dates. Cut the Dang Shen into smaller pieces.
  2. Add all ingredients into a pot with 6 cup of water (1500ml/1.5qt), and bring to a boil for 10 minutes. Then simmer for 45 minutes in low heat. (or use health kettle for 1.5 hours)

Special Notes:

  • How long does it take to feel the effects of ginseng? It is recommended to continue to drink this soup for two weeks for better results.
  • Panax Ginseng is warming in nature which is not suitable for those who are sick, experiencing fever, constipation/ diarrhea, during period or have excess heat in body etc. Consult your physician before taking any medicine-based herbs for personalized medical advice.
  • Not recommended to pregnant, nursing women, children, people with hypertension or heart diseases, on medication or have a medical condition.
